Palestinian Flag for Sale? Nike in Pole Position?

To the somewhat amazement of many people around the world, the Palestinian Government have passed a bill allowing for corporate sponsors to be added to the Palestinian Flag.

The Palestinian Government voted by 102 in favour, 3 abstentions and 27 against to enable President Mahmoud Abbas to effectively sell space on the Flag. Prime Minister Salam Fayyad urgently needs to make money following a recent reduction in internal funding. Fayyad has said on the subject "“I am a business guy, I know how to make money. We gotta do what we gotta do in order to build our country. I am the corruption doctor and this idea [getting corporate sponsors for the Palestinian flag] is my brainchild.”

Sponsors who are said to have already expressed an interest are Nike, Dunkin Donuts and William Morris Tobacco. Fayyad has said he likes the idea of Nike - “I like Nike. I am all about the ‘Just Do It’ attitude. Peace accord with Israel? Just do it. Forfeiting refugees’ right of return? Just do it.”
