Serbians Make a Japanese Flag with their bodies

This story is another heart-warming story about how nations are rallying in support of Japan, following the recent devastating earthquake and Tsunami.

The old saying "what goes around, comes around" seems to apply here. The Japanese Government have been helping the recovery of Yugoslavia following the Balkans war, through donations since 1999.

The people of Serbia wanting to do something formed themselves into the shape of a Japanese flag, see the image below:

Since 1999, the Japanese have donated more than 200 Million Euros to help rebuild Serbia. Belgrade citizens have donated 2.5 million Euros to Japan to help with the restoration effort.

In case any of you were wondering what the Serbian Flag looked like, here it is:

English Council Flys Pakistani Flag but Refuses to Fly Israeli Flag

An English Council has caused anger and controversy by what appears to be the use of double standards.

Bury Council, Greater Manchester has flown the Pakistani Flag for some years now on Pakistam Independence Day. Recently the Council were requested to fly the Israeli Flag on "Yom Ha'atzmaut", this request was refused.

This was reported by the Jewish Chronicle. Miss Solomon range the Council and said "I quite innocently rang the council, after I heard about the Pakistani flag, to see if they would also fly one for Israel. We want to celebrate the Jewish people getting a state and share that with the whole community. But flying only one flag is not just insulting to the Jewish community, but also the Indian community, whose country's independence is celebrated on the same day as Pakistan's. They are offending other ethnic communities too. It's either all or nothing," she added.

The Council have promised to review their flag display policy but this will be after Yom Ha'atzmaut on May 10. Read the full article at http://www.thejc.com/news/uk-news/47276/israeli-flag-refusal-angers-bury-jews

Support for Syrian President President Bashar al-Assad - Solider Waves Syrian Flag

Support amongst the army still seems strong for Syrian President, Bashar al-Assad.

As can be seen from the image below, a Soldier waves the Syrian Flag with pride, whilst beneath him a picture of the president is displayed.

Like most Middle-Eastern leaders, the Syrian President has recently come under fire and blames dissidents for unrest in the country.

It's interesting once more to see the national flag used as a symbol of patriotism.

US Flag returned to Veterans Family

In Rochester, New York, USA a flag has been returned to the family of a war veteran, ironically they didn't even know the flag was missing!

Jason Wallace, of Rochester, received the American flag from a friend. The US flag which was enclosed in a case had been purchased at an auction in Wells, Maine. Wallace became determined to try and find the owner as the flag in case belonged to a World War II Veteran.

Through the help of WMUR Channel 9 viewer the flag was reinstated with the owner who didn't even know it was missing. “I’m just thrilled to have it back,” Paul Grady said on Saturday 26 March. “My daughter Kailyn got a message on Facebook from a girl named Shannon, who happened to see the news story,” Grady explained. “I just can’t thank him enough. A lot of people wouldn’t have bothered to do anything, and he (Wallace) made the effort and I really appreciate it,” said Grady.

The flag in a presentation case had belonged to the father of Grady, Austin Grady who passed away in 2004.

Israeli Flag Controversy at Prague Hotel

A Prague Hotel was at the center of a controversy surrounding the Israeli Flag and the Iranian Embassy.

The Iranian Embassy had booked a meeting at a well known Hotel in Prague and just before were shocked to see the "Israeli Flag" was flying high above the hotel, amongst other flags. A diplomat contacted Hotel staff and asked for the flag to be temporarily removed.

The Hotel Manager, reportedly said:
"The (Israeli) flag will remain at the front of the hotel always. If you don’t like it, you are welcome to hold the event at another hotel."

The angry Iranian Embassy staff had no alternative but to continue with the meeting but intend to hold no further meetings at the venue. The Iranian Embassy will be looking for alternative Prague Accommodation in future. Presumably they will want the Iranian Flag to fly high instead in future?

Kingdom of Libya Flag - Will it return?

Amongst the recent tensions in Libya has emerged a flag related issue. Will the former Kingdom of Libya flag return.

The former flag of the Kingdom of Libya is shown below.

But the question is, will this replace the current Libyan flag? This is increasingly seen as a symbol of the Gadaffi regime:

The current flag of Libya as you can see is all green and was introduced by Gaddafi somewhat controversially on November 11, 1977. The flag is the only country flag of the world to have just one color. with no symbol to break the color up. The green reflects the countries love of Islam, for which green is the dominant color.

Various islamic states have major green emphasis in their flag design, these include (but are not limited to):
Algeria
Iran
Mauritania
Pakistan
Saudi Arabia
Turkmenistan
United Arab Emirates

In recent times, protestors around the world have been seen waving the former Kingdom of Libya flag. Recently in Times Square, New York, USA - 600 protestors were seen and some had the flag. Even within Libya itself the flag has been seen used as a weapon of protest, see this image below:

In the image below, a protester waves the Kingdom of Libya flag. This was during a protest against Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, which was held in Benghazi, Libya on February 26, 2011.

In the image below, the Kingdom of Libya flag can be seen waving at the Libyan Embassy in the Hague, Netherlands. This has already replaced the traditional all green Libya flag:
